Twenty-five young ladies grades seven to 10 attended the week-long Girls Get S.M.A.R.T. camp at Ulster BOCES Career and Technical College. Campers used CAD and digital imaging to design and construct a 3D plastic penguin, and learned how the process can also be used to make parts for aerospace, automotive, and medical technology. They also constructed robots and designed jewelry. Throughout the week, female engineers spoke to the students about their careers. They toured Ametek Rotron, orange County Choppers, and Fala Technology Lab.

“I just wanted to thank you for another great year that my daughter had at your camp. She loves working with her hands and this camp gave her the opportunity to do just that and more. She loved working with all the tools and machines and to make and create different projects. On the last day, she expressed to me that she wished the camp was longer because she made new friends and enjoyed working with all the different machines. I’m a single mom and this camp is not only good for my daughter’s mechanical/engineering abilities, but it’s also helpful toward my finances, since it’s free.”
