A one-day exploration of careers and technologies, June 20 in Louisville

How can kids be expected to consider a career in manufacturing if they’ve never experienced it? If they’ve never set foot inside a manufacturing company or had the experience of designing and making a product or explored all the varied careers available in manufacturing, they can’t possibly know how interesting, exciting, well-paid and fulfilling the industry can be.

Here’s a chance to play “manufacturer for a day”

During the SkillsUSA TECHSPO which is co-located with the annual SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference in Louisville the week of June 19, students can participate in a one-day, hands-on manufacturing mini-camp conducted by Nuts, Bolts & Thingamajigs®, (NBT) the foundation of the Fabricators & Manufacturers Association, Intl®.

What is included in the camp?

The camp will be held Tuesday, June 20 and during the activity-packed day, participating 12-14 year-old students will be led through the full manufacturing process, from design to completion and will leave with a product they made with their own hands.  They will:

  • experience the latest technologies in an advanced manufacturing workshop at one of the local colleges,
  • learn how to apply the STEM skills they’ve learned in school to real-life manufacturing tasks,
  • see how a product design becomes a CNC program,
  • and work with some of the tools of the trade,

. . . all under the careful supervision of several college instructors who have conducted week-long NBT manufacturing camps for many years.

Lunch will be included and they will even get to view one of the SkillsUSA competition programs.

Register NOW!

Because of the hands-on nature of this program, a limited number of seats will be available, so don’t delay, register before the deadline of June 5 at www.nbtfoundation.org/kyminicamp.

TECHSPO is the perfect location for an introductory manufacturing mini-camp

The students who participate in the SkillsUSA competition have already discovered their passion for a hands-on career and many of the participants have chosen manufacturing and welding.  The students competing in Louisville are the best in the nation having earned their way through local, regional and state competitions.  Employers actively recruit these students for their skills.  But younger students, even those with an interest in science, technology, engineering and math my not have had an opportunity to explore manufacturing and how they can utilize their STEM skills in a great career.  This one-day mini-camp is the chance to do just that. Local area students are welcome to register as are students from across the country who may be coming to the SkillsUSA program with an older sibling who is competing. NBT thanks Haas Factory Outlets, Sullivan College of Design & Technology, Grainger and Solidworks for their support of this program.
