Golfers Have a Blast and Raise Awareness for NBT’s Mission
By Staff Report | September 24, 2019
Categories:Nuts, Bolts & Thingamajigs® (NBT) would like to thank the sponsors and guests of the seventh annual GOLF4MFG® fundraiser at Prairie Landing Golf Club in West Chicago, Illinois. Players came out to drive, chip, and putt on the prairie-style fairways and greens on August 19. NBT raised $45,000 to support the scholarship and summer manufacturing camp programs.
Golfers enjoyed a wonderful day of comradery and competition at the new venue — all starting out on the regulation Par-4 practice holes, driving range, and putting greens. This year, two players hit the surprisingly difficult “Splash for Cash” target 100 yards out. The putting contest got things heating up early with a four-way tie. Nate Stortzum came up victorious and took home the prize.
More contests throughout the course gave golfers the chance to win exclusive prizes including golfing trips to Vegas and Florida, a Harley Davidson motorcycle, and a set of golf clubs! President and CEO Ed Youdell challenged golfers to a closest-to-the-pin contest at the President’s Challenge hole. The CO2-propelled ball blaster added to the excitement to make it a fantastic event for a great cause.
The overall winning foursome from Huntington Bank scored a total of 58, 14 under par, edging out the competition by one stroke. Team members’ names, Chris Truax, Brent Martin, Erik Skogsbakken, and Chris Sweetland will be etched on the giant traveling trophy housed at the Fabricators & Manufacturers Association, International® (FMA).
Congratulations to the contest winners:
Longest Drive: Kourtney Mulcahy, Akerman LLP
Straightest Drive: Mark Parry, ITW
Closest to the Pin and Longest Putt: Mel Melay, Hendrick Metal Products
The post-play reception gave an opportunity for recognition of donations from PMMI presented by Kate Fiorianti and Stephan Girard, Steve Earley from CNA, and Jeff Schroeder of Miller Electric. Special guests from College of DuPage and Richard J. Daley College addressed the group and shared inspirational stories of the impressions made at their summer manufacturing camps.
Fundraisers such as GOLF4MFG have been instrumental to the success of NBT’s programs. Since the foundation’s inception, NBT has awarded over $1 million camp grants and over $1 million in scholarships to students pursuing manufacturing careers.
The 2019 summer camp grant program introduced over 2,700 students to manufacturing. The total number of potential next-generation skilled workers from NBT summer camps has reached over 8,800! In addition to the summer camp explosion, the total number of awarded scholarships has supported 490 students — enabling them to follow their dreams of having a career in manufacturing. Solving the skilled labor shortage isn’t going to happen immediately, but NBT programs are making progress towards that goal every year. With the help of the foundation’s supporters and donors, we can continue this progression and shed light on this important mission.
Thank you to the GOLF4MFG sponsors!
