OPC Processors Silent Auction

Friday, July 28, 2023 | Plymouth, MI

The Outside Processors Council (OPC), has established a scholarship program through NBT for students preparing for careers in the metals industry. Named in honor of one of the metal processing community’s biggest supporters, the John Grossheim Memorial Scholarships are awarded twice a year* to deserving students. John established the OPC Processors Auction in 2011, and to date, OPC/FMA member companies and other leaders in the processing community have contributed more than $200,000 to support the next generation of metals manufacturing professionals!

The Processors Auction is not your ordinary fundraiser! Companies can donate services such as processing time, slitting, leveling, or transportation to NBT. NBT in turn promotes the company to a target audience of customers and encourages them to place their bids. Many times, a customer “wins” an item they are planning to purchase anyway at an amount below market value. Donations of processing services make this auction a fun and unique opportunity to promote your company’s brand while supporting a great cause.

*Applications for all NBT scholarships are accepted January 1-March 31 for fall semester awards and July 1-Sept. 30 for the following spring semester awards. Priority consideration for the Grossheim scholarship is given to employees of OPC/FMA member companies, their spouses, and dependents.

John Grossheim

John Grossheim, formerly of Heidtman Steel Products, passed away in August 2015. John was a long-time member of the Outside Processors Council (OPC) and FMA Metals Processing Council. He was passionate about encouraging the next generation of workers to consider a career in the metals industry and was the originator and driving force behind the silent auctions held in conjunction with the Motor City Slitters golf event. Under John’s leadership, the auctions raised enough to establish the OPC endowment fund which will support the annual scholarship program in perpetuity.
